Famous Artists Prints

Many of our customers said that our Famous Artists Prints really made their living rooms cozy. Last fall, I remember going to my friend's house and I saw three new pieces of artwork on her wall. I had to get really close just to see if these were prints or original paintings. Just recently, in fact, an etching by Pablo Picasso, La Minotauromachie, sold for a record-breaking $1.98 million. Liberty Leading the People depicts a bare-breasted woman, personifying liberty, leading armed civilians towards liberty. France's July Revolution of 1830 was a significant moment in history and best commemorated by the French artist Eugene Delacroix. Over the years, the painting's paint and colour have begun to fade and flake while its iconic status has grown, making The Last Supper even more precious. Da Vinci captured the moment where Christ informs his disciples that one of them would betray him, and so we have a table of twelve men wearing expressions of shock, anger, and horror. Of course, not all types prints reach into the economic stratosphere in this way. As we will see, collecting of famous artists prints can be a pragmatically inexpensive way to develop a respectable art collection. What's essential is to know what to look for. What exactly are prints? An all-too-common misconception novice collectors tend to have is that all prints are reproductions — like posters hanging on a dorm room wall, mechanically reproduced and sold en masse.

Cyan's early famous posters can be strikingly unintelligible. Up close, they're a neurotic jumble of stylized text going in all different directions; layers of reds, oranges, and purples; photographs that have been manipulated to the point of blurry, swirly abstraction. It's unclear where to start looking. You want to see it all at once. The works have a radiant quality that calls to mind what an early-twentieth-century critic, referencing Milton, described as the ideal poster's ""hiddensoul of harmony.""

Drew Struzan was born on 14th May 1947 and is an artist known for his movie poster artwork, which includes all the films in the Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, and Star Wars series. He also completed work on others such as Big Trouble in Little China, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Blade Runner, The Thing, Cannonball Run and Jurassic Park. In his early career also painted album covers for many well-known famous artists and later in his career moved into collectables and book covers. Famous artists posters offer material proof of great social movements and icons, as well as evidence of the concerts or rallies that only a handful of people attended. Whatever the case, posters have always been disposable. Although Yanker's political posters are now part of the collection of the Library of Congress, they represent a fraction of what was produced in the twentieth century. Perhaps Fiedler and Haufe's distance from the traditional pedagogy of design freed them to pursue visions that were dreamy and surreal. You might be surprised by some of them. Not everyone, however, seems to be aware of its origin: a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939, meant to buoy civilian morale amidst devastating German air raids on London (it was never actually distributed, however, until being rediscovered in 2000). It was the ""Keep Calm and Carry On"" poster, however, that inspired this blog post. The design, which consists of these words in a sans-serif column beneath a crown, typically on a monochrome background or before a Union Jack, has become a ubiquitous fixture in hipper scenes.

Richard Amsel was born on 4th December 1947 and passed away on 17th November 1985. He was an illustrator and graphic designer. Unfortunately, his career was brief after being struck down with illness but stunningly successful, entailing a wide variety of commercial illustration work including album and magazine covers, it is perhaps Richard Amsel's movie posters artwork that remains the most popular. His portrait of comedian Lily Tomlin for the cover of Time Magazine is now part of the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C. In 2012 the posters ran in parallel with a viral video and early results showed an amazing 20 percent reduction in accidents and near-misses on the Melbourne Metro. The hapless characters in this rail safety campaign by Metro Trains in Melbourne, Australia, proved there are plenty of dumb ways to die - and helped to save lives along the way. Atmospheric humidity in Lima is around 98 percent but only half an inch of rain falls each year.

Thomas Jung (known as Tom Jung) was born on 13th February 1942 and is an advertising art director, graphic designer and illustrator who is best known for his movie poster artwork and his work as a motion picture storyboard artist. Tom has worked on movie poster artwork for films such as Doctor Zhivago, Grand Prix, Le Mans, Star Wars, The Dogs of War, The Empire Strikes Back and Once Upon a Time in America. The movie poster is thought to have originated in the 1870s when Paris artist and lithographer, Jules Cheret, introduced a printing technique that produced images with intense colour and rich texture. By the early 1890s, Paris streets were plastered with lithographic images hawking everything from bicycles to cognac to circus performances. Our rather fascinating world of movie posters has comprises of numerous poster sizes and various different styles over the years. Then these gave way to posters of bands I did not like but wanted to like, a cartoon rendering of Silicon Valley, and, inexplicably, an image of Goethe. One of my introductions to the frictions of adult life came on the first day of college, when my roommates and I debated which poster would lay claim to our wall space: Björk or the women of ""Melrose Place."" Mucha made a hundred and nineteen posters during his career, and the Poster House exhibition collects all but three of them. We leave you with The Dude. Few posters in recent history have had the impact of ""Hope,"" designer Shepard Fairey's red, white and blue treatment of a photograph of Barack Obama that circulated widely before the politician's election in 2008 (and also landed the artist in some trouble with Getty Images, which owned the copyright to the source photograph). The above mock-vintage beer ad and film still from Animal House (1978), featuring Jon Belushi chugging a bottle of whiskey, are ubiquitous fixtures in fraternity houses across the country.

Supported by his father throughout his career, the artist was able to pursue his interests in painting rather than ascribe to a particular style. During the latter part of his career, Cézanne spent much of his time in his hometown. Here, he painted views of Mont Saint-Victoire, still lifes, and Provençal locals, as seen in his work The Card Players (1890-1892). He was widely appreciated in his lifetime, despite facing mainstream rejection from major institutions and salons. That project has concluded, and works are now being identified by MoMA staff. In 1895 Parisian publisher and gallerist Ambroise Vollard gave Cézanne an exhibition that was instrumental in promoting his work and establishing his reputation. This show coincided with the revival of color lithography in France in the 1890s, and Vollard was among those art entrepreneurs who commissioned and published prints for portfolios. Cézanne created a lithograph for one of Vollard's early portfolios and two more for another, never-realized project.

Cézanne began working with these artists, beginning to develop his own theory and style of painting in 1880. He reduced every object in nature to one of three shapes; the cone, the cylinder, and the cube. He then achieved a three-dimensional architectural effect by deliberately alternating warm and cool tones and by using a dark outline around objects. Paul Cézanne (1839-1906) is the pre-eminent Post-Impressionist. All modern art can be traced either directly or indirectly to him. The mastery in his paintings, tunes, color combinations, and each and every aspect was exceptional. His every painting was the picture form of his ideas. His personality could be easily seen through his canvas. Paul Cezanne had exhibited his paintings in numerous exhibitions, where spectators and critics could not stop themselves from praising him. In 1999, one of his art pieces, ""Rideau, Cruchon et Compotier"" was sold for $60.5 million at auction and is considered the most expensive still life painting sold in art history. Bathers seen above is one of a great number of Paul Cezanne works, including pencil sketches and oil paintings, which portray a complex set of people bathing in the countryside, normally nude which itself adds challenge to the artist. The Bathers series is often refered to as Les Grandes Baigneuses or similar which are the original French titles that the painter would have given to them at the time. The use of nude portraits is common within art and forces the painter to concentrate on fine detail for each person included.

Mont Sainte-Victoire is the chosen mountain in most cases as the artist was very fond of the area in which this mountain can be found. It's size offered him the opportunity to tackle it in his art from many different viewpoints all around it's perimeter, giving great flexibility and opportunity to place paintings together in a related series. Vase and Apples is a further notable still life painting by Cezanne which offers interesting technique to the post-impressionist art movement. We also have an array of high quality frames that are custom built for each print. In the mid-1800s his work consisted mainly of portraits and imaginative figure subjects, with occasional still lifes. Under Pissarro's influence, he took up landscape painting, and closely studying nature led him to abandon the gloomy tonality of his early work. He began to experiment with the joys of light and colour, as his style came under the influence of Impressionism.

What have survived are many of his experimental procedures, sketches, and theories.

Leonardo da Vinci's legacy affirms his position at the pinnacle of High Renaissance art. Leonardo returned to Florence excited by the artistic renaissance. Here he created his masterpieces - the Mona Lisa, the Leda and the Swan (now lost). Leonardo then left Florence for the court of Ludovico Sforza in Milan, where he painted portraits, created The Last Supper fresco and also started producing anatomical, botanical, and scientific sketches (many of which survive today). It brings together the polymath's interests in botany, geology, anatomy, science, architecture and the natural world. Due to the fragile nature of the works, they are never on permanent display and are only ever on show for a few months at a time to protect them from exposure to light. It is part of a large collection of da Vinci works which are held by the Queen, and which have been kept together as a group since the artist's death in 1519.
